A very effective technique for large trout that are spread throughout the streams is to fish a two fly rig with the Murray's Pearl Marauder size 10 on a Murray's Classic 7.5 foot 4X Leader with a Murray's Black Marauder size 10 on a two foot 5X tippet coming off the bend of the Murray's Pearl Marauder hook. Fish these flies across stream below the riffles and in the deep pools using a two inch stripping action every five seconds.
Some anglers are concerned about getting the flies and tippets knotted together when casting a two fly rig. This need not happen! Do not cast a two fly rig the same way you would a single fly. Rather, when you pick the flies up off the water to make your back cast do it with a low side arm cast. Then when you make your presentation cast, do it with a strong overhead cast. Simply stated, in low and out high.
The Smith River at Basset and the Bullpasture hold many large trout now.
