Snow covered Trout Streams

Delayed Harvest and Large Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report- January 8, 2018

Murray's Dark Miracle Stonefly Nymph
Last week I discussed fishing dry stoneflies to the surface feeders in the flat parts of the pools. This is a very exciting game when you find surface feeders but some sections of the streams are fairly fast and the trout feed on the natural dark stonefly nymphs. A good tactic in these situations is to fish a Murray's Dark Miracle Stonefly Nymph size 14 on a twenty four inch 6X mono dropper below it. Use this to fish upstream to the trout you see rising or to just cover the water. I usually catch about half of my trout on the dry and about half on the nymph.
