Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - July 27, 2022

Frequently at dusk you can spot rising trout in back eddies in the tails of the pools feeding on midges.  Taper down to 7X and drift a Mr. Rapidan Midge size 20 over them and you will have a great evening.

I am starting to change over to some of my "change of pace" flies as the water levels get lower and the trout have seen every fly out there.  These include the Murray's Inchworm, Murray's Housefly, & Murray's Yellow Jacket.  Often after the hatches have ended the trout will feed on the natural "bugs" and these flies match what the trout are feeding on.

Early this week I was checking out some of the streams in the Shenandoah National Park.  The Park streams are getting low and the fish are wary.  Hide your approach and if needed, get on your hands and knees to sneak, sneak, sneak. The water temperature was around 65 degrees.

For help on access to the Shenandoah National Park streams, see my book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park or stop by the fly shop.
