Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - June 22, 2022

Just prior to hatching, the olive caddis pupa often drifts several feet just below the surface of the stream. A very effective technique is to fish a Mr. Rapidan Delta Wing Caddis, Olive size 14 with an Olive Caddis Pupa size 14 on a dropper below it.  Earlier this week, I was fishing in the Shenandoah National Park with a Murray's Flying Beetle size 16 and Mr. Rapidan Ant size 16.  So between the caddis, beetle and ant pattern I was covered. Fish all of these on a 6X leader.

Since we have not been getting steady rain showers, the streams are starting to get low causing the trout to be wary.  Be sure to hide your approach and sneak, sneak, sneak.

All of the streams in the Shenandoah National Park and George Washington National Forest are low, clear, and fishable.  If you have the option, look for streams that have one or two feeder streams entering, therefore giving you better water levels.  If you need help finding areas, stop by the fly shop or call me at 540-984-4212.

Please note the fly shop will be closed June 26-28 and July 3-5.  All emails and online orders will be taken care of upon our return.
