Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - June 24, 2021

The shrubs and over hanging tree limbs along the mountain trout streams provide great numbers of beetles and houseflies for the trout to feed upon. When the hatches of aquatic insects are sparse I fish the Murray's Flying Beetle size 16 & 18, Murray's Housefly size 16, and Mr. Rapidan Ant size 18 to all of the trout I see rising and to cover the water if there are no rising trout. I am fishing these on a Mountain Leader 6ft 6X.

The water temperature has been in the low 60's and the water levels are at normal levels.  Early this week when I was over in the Shenandoah National Park the trout were very wary so watch your approach and if you have to --go to your hands and knees to sneak, sneak, sneak.  As long as we continue to get rain showers then the levels will remain normal and the fishing should continue to be good.

For more information on these streams stop by the fly shop in Edinburg or see my book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park.
