Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report -March 10, 2022

There is great fishing in the upper sections of our mountain streams and especially in the small feeder branches. This is a great time to hike into the remote sections of these streams to camp close to some of the branches and fish a different stream every day.

The Epeorus pleuralis mayflies are hatching.  From mid day until dusk the Mr. Rapidan Dry size 14 will give you exciting fishing for rising trout. Earlier in the day I do well with the Mr. Rapidan Bead Head Nymph size 14 and the Mr. Rapidan Emerger size 14. You can also use these as a dry and a dropper to cover all of the water.

Keep in mind the Shenandoah National Park mountains are normally 10 degrees cooler than our air temperature in the Valley so plan accordingly and layer clothing. Check the Shenandoah National Park social media pages for updates on closures due to the weather.

I have had many of you ask when the National Forest roads will open again. They usually open these roads around the end of March.  We will keep you posted.
