Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - March 12, 2020

Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - March 12, 2020

A few Epeorus mayfly duns are hatching and I'm catching many trout on a Mr. Rapidan Parachute Dry size 14 on a Classic 7 1/5ft 5X leader in the tails of the pools. The Mr. Rapidan Emerger size 14 is very effective fished upstream dead drift in the deep pools. The temperature has been around 41 degrees on these streams the last few days.

You will get better water levels by coming into the streams from the Skyline Drive or the heads of the streams.

Special Notice:

Effective on March 31, 2020.  Due to declines in the brook trout populations in Pass Run (Page County) and North Fork Thornton River (Rappahannock County) these streams will now be no-kill streams.

I will be conducting a two hour fly fishing workshop on the Shenandoah National Park streams in the fly shop Saturday March 14, 2020 from 10a.m. to noon.  If you are interested in learning more about the park streams then come join us.  Register online.
