Mountain Trout Streams: This is a great time to hike into the upper reaches of our trout streams in the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains from the upper trail heads to camp and fish for several days. The hatches, stream levels and stream temperatures are ideal and the fishing is outstanding. Most of these trail heads are covered in my books, Virginia Blue-Ribbon Streams and Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park. Effective flies now are Murray's Professor Dry size 14, Mr. Rapidan Parachute size 14 and Blue Quill Dry size 16.
