Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - April 21, 2022

Recent rains have pushed some of the large bass into the back eddies below the riffles. I can catch some nice bass in these areas I believe because the slightly discolored water keeps them from being wary. The Murray's Tungsten Cone Head Marauder in olive and black size 4 are very effective.

The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is still carrying a full amount of water so you will be able to float this but it is a little too much for safe wading. The North Fork of the Shenandoah is in beautiful shape for wading.  There is plenty of public access on both rivers so if you need help on where to go, just contact me. My book Virginia Blue Ribbon Streams covers most of the game commission access.

The water temperature is still cool, so bring your chest high waders.  I think you will do better if you wait until the afternoon once the water temperature rises a little.

We still have openings in our On The Stream Fly Fishing Schools starting in June.  Don't miss out!  #LearnToFlyFish
