Smallmouth Bass Streams: The natural hellgrammites are very active in the riffles now and the large bass are feeding heavily upon them. One effective tactic is to fish large nymphs upstream dead drift in all of the pockets over three feet deep. My favorite flies are the Murray's Heavy Black Hellgrammite size 4, Murray's Heavy Olive Hellgrammite size 4 and Murray's Heavy Brown Hellgrammite size 4. Access point #18 (Meem's Bottom) is good on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. Access point #11 (Seakford) is good on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River.
