Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report- October 10, 2017

Murray's Heavy Black Hellgrammite, Murray's Olive Road Kill Nymph and Murray's Skunk Road Kill Nymph
The smallmouth bass rivers are cooling down and many bass are feeding heavily right below the riffles on the natural nymphs. We are catching many bass on the Murray's Heavy Black Hellgrammite size 4, Murray's Skunk Road Kill Nymph size 6 and Murray's Olive Road Kill Nymph size 6. A productive tactic is to wade into the side of the riffle right where it drops into the pool downstream. Cast across stream and swim the nymph back across stream by stripping it two inches every ten seconds. I use this method for the next one hundred feet downstream of each riffle. This is effective on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River at access point #3 (Burnshire Bridge). This is also effective on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River at access point #11 (Seakford).
