Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - Update October 30, 2020

My selection of flies for this time of year are based on two factors. First, I want to match the natural foods the bass feed on. Second, I want to use flies which match the live baits the experienced fishermen used in the 40's and 50's.

  • Murray's Magnum Hog Sucker size 4,
  • Murray's Madtom Sculpin, Black size 4,
  • Murray's Magnum Darter size 4,
  • Murray's Tungsten Cone Head Marauder, Black size 4,
  • Murray's Tungsten Cone Head Marauder, Olive size 4

With the cooler water temperatures you want to fish these as slowly and as deeply as you possibly can.

Update on Stream Conditions: 10/30/20 9a.m. The North Fork of the Shenandoah is clear and fishable. I would recommend fishing the Edinburg through Woodstock area for the best water levels.   The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is high and muddy from the rains yesterday.
