Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 30, 2018

We are getting excellent smallmouth fishing in the back eddies that form below the riffles on the sides of the river with slow currents. These can range from 10 feet to 50 feet in diameter and can be fished by either wading or floating. Many fish hold here now and I often take an hour to fish a back eddy that is 50 feet in diameter.

Magnum Streamers

Some of my favorite flies in these feeding stations are the Murray's Magnum Creek Chub size 4, Murray's Magnum Darter size 4, and Murray's Magnum Bluegill size 4. I strip these very slowly to have them crawl right along the stream bottom.

The North Fork of the Shenandoah River at access point #5 (Chapman's Landing) has many of these feeding stations in the first mile downstream. All access spots on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River are clear and fishable.

The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear but is still a little too high for safe wading.  You will get your best fishing by floating.
