Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - February 20, 2020

Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - February 20, 2020

Some of the larger streams are slightly higher than normal from the recent rains. I often improve my action by using a sinking tip III fly line with streamers such as the Shenandoah Sunrise Streamer size 10, Shenandoah Silver Streamer size 10 and Shenandoah Skunk Streamer size 10. Using this line with a 6ft 3X Fluorocarbon Sinking Leader enables me to swim these streamers right along the stream bottom in the deep pools where the large trout are feeding.

All of the local stocked trout streams such as Big Stoney Creek (Edinburg), Passage Creek (Fort Valley), and Mill Creek (Mount Jackson) are clear and fishable. Mill Creek was stocked last week.  I have had several customers asking about the delayed harvest section on Passage Creek this week.  The delayed harvest section of the stream (near Rt. 619) is still closed as they are making repairs to the hatchery. Please see their message below:

Due to construction/renovation activities at the Front Royal Fish Hatchery the Delayed Harvest Area on Passage Creek (Warren Co.) will not be stocked and closed to fishing until further notice.  This is due to stocking and angler access constraints and public safety concerns. It is anticipated to be re-opened by October 1, 2020.
