Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - February 27, 2019

The recent rains have flushed many of the aquatic insects from the stream bottom and the trout are feeding heavily upon them. I like to use the Murray's Dark Stonefly Nymph size 12 to match the natural stoneflies along the sides of the streams. The Murray's Caddis Larva size 14 is very effective on the trout feeding on the natural larva in the back eddies and the Murray's Adams Mayfly Nymph size 12 helps me catch many trout in the rolling water below the riffles. On the large streams I cast these across stream and retrieve them with a slow twitching action.

Many of the local stocked trout streams are full but fishable. Bring your waders! Big Stoney Creek in Edinburg and Mill Creek in Mount Jackson were stocked on February 21.
