Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - March 31, 2022

It has been a while since I posted on the stocked trout streams so I wanted to give you an update. Big Stoney Creek in Edinburg was just stocked this week.  April 2 is Heritage Day and some of the local streams are being stocked on Friday April 1 (closed for fishing that day) and then open to fish at 9a.m. on Saturday April 2. Passage Creek along Rt 678 in Fort Valley(Shenandoah County) and Hawksbill Creek in Page County are 2 of the streams that will be stocked for Heritage Day.

The local stocked trout streams are clear and fishable.  I would recommend the Murray's Tungsten Marauder in Olive size 10 if you need to get your fly down in a faster current.  A Betsy Streamer size 10, Murray's Brown Crayfish size 10 and a Dark Stonefly Nymph size 12 would also work well on these streams.  If you see rising trout then through on a Mr. Rapidan Parachute size 14.

Be sure to bring your hip boots and make sure you have your trout license in addition to your freshwater fishing license.  In some cases you will need a National Forest Permit as well.
