Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - Update November 10, 2018

The local trout streams such as Mill Creek, Big Stoney Creek, and Passage Creek are full but clear and fishable. With the extra water flowing you will need to put some split shot above your fly to help get the fly down.

Original Post November 7--There is excellent fishing in the Hidden Valley of the Jackson, the Bullpasture, Big Stoney Creek and Mill Creek with nymphs such as Murray's Dark Stonefly Nymph size 12, Murray's Caddis Larva size 12 and Mr. Rapidan Olive Soft Hackle size 12. Big Stoney Creek and Mill Creek were just recently stocked on 11/1.

By using the "swing nymphing" tactic I teach in my schools you can drift these flies in the deepest pools right along the stream bottom. This involves casting up and across stream 20 feet at a 45 degree angle and allowing the nymph to sink to the bottom on a slack line. Then remove the slack with your line hand and swing the rod down stream. Keep a tight line on the nymph and set the hook solidly the instant you feel the strike. Charlie Brooks taught me this method on the Madison River and I rely on it all across the country.
